Intentional Community

How to Choose Community Living for Better Housing, Health, and Happiness

Curious about living in community, but unsure where to begin?

As housing costs rise and social isolation grows, more people are exploring intentional communities as a different way to live—not as an idealistic experiment, but as a practical response to real needs.

Ecovillages, cohousing neighborhoods, housing cooperatives, and shared homesteads are no longer fringe ideas. They are lived, evolving models for people seeking affordability, connection, and a stronger sense of home.

Intentional Community is a grounded, accessible guide to understanding these options—and deciding whether community living is right for you.

About the Author

Hey there! I’m Cynthia Tina, founder of Community Findersand Ecovillage Tours, and a guide for people exploring more intentional ways of living.

Over the past decade, I’ve visited more than 200 intentional communities around the world. I’ve supported thousands of people who are curious about community and want realistic guidance on what living well with others can look like.

I live in a small ecovillage in central Vermont, where I’m building my own natural home by hand and sharing daily life with my neighbors. This book grows directly from lived experience and from years of listening closely to people’s questions about belonging, housing, and connection.

I believe that belonging isn’t something we have to chase. It’s something we can choose, co create, and come home to.

This book was written for people who want:

  • Clear, realistic information

  • Language for asking better questions

  • A way to explore community without pressure to commit

Rather than presenting community as a utopian ideal, Intentional Community approaches it as an increasingly accessible way of meeting real needs: housing, connection, and belonging.

This book is for you if…

  • You’re tired of doing life on your own and craving deeper connection

  • You’ve heard of ecovillages, cohousing, or cooperatives and want to learn more

  • You’re curious about community living but not sure where to begin

  • You’ve tried living with others before and want to do it with more intention

  • You’re ready to feel at home—in your life, in your relationships, and in yourself
